New Homeowners Enjoying Single-Level Living at Winsome Hill, Kelowna

George-Arlene_400-2.jpgLast summer we announced the new walk-out rancher style homes that would feature the master bedroom on the main level – a rare home design in Kelowna – to our Winsome Hill community.

This unique floorplan provides homeowners a single-level living option with the ability to customize the lower level of their home, so it's a layout that is especially attractive to empty nesters and those looking to downsize without having to compromise on space.

The homes offer 2,171 sq ft of living space and feature 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The lower levels are not finished, so homeowners are able to customize their options and choose the floorplan that best suites their needs.

This fall, we were very happy to welcome our first homeowners - George and Arlene Berridge - to their new “Master on the Main” home!

“In the beginning we weren’t really looking at new homes because we weren’t sure new would be an option for us in Kelowna,” says Arlene. “But, we knew we wanted to get away from stairs, and we wanted to get away from gardening and taking care of lawns, so Strata living really suits us.”

“In addition to not having to climb stairs, I also love having my master bedroom and laundry on the main level, it’s exactly what I wanted,” continues Arlene. “The access to the front deck off the master bedroom is a nice feature too.”

George and Arlene moved to Kelowna from Fort McMurray about a year ago and rented while they searched for a home of their own. Their retirement plan was to move to Kelowna, a decision that was made even easier when their son chose to attend university at UBCO.

Being located in the Glenmore area was also a bonus to the couple. “I feel like Glenmore is a well-established, safe neighbourhood. It’s close to paths so it’s great for walking,” says Arlene. “It also has everything – grocery stores, doctor and dentist offices - you really don’t have to leave the neighbourhood if you don’t want to.”

Winsome Hill’s close proximity to their son at UBCO and the airport were also a selling feature for George, who travels often for work.

What the new homeowners weren’t expecting was the added benefit of the BUILT GREEN® construction of their home. In fact, every home at Winsome Hill is certified as BUILT GREEN® for achieving its Gold Level of certification, a feature that can save a homeowner roughly 30% (and as much as 50%) in annual utility bills compared to a code-built home.

Although George and Arlene didn’t know a great deal about BUILT GREEN® before purchasing this home, they had purchased a new home previously and have already noticed differences.

“In our first brand new home we could smell the off-gasses given off from the formaldehyde in the carpet and you could smell the paint fumes,” says George. “When we did our first walk through of this home, you couldn’t smell anything. There’s also a lot less dust. It feels a lot cleaner in this new home.”
