SAFETY OFFICER

CONSTRUCTION

The Construction Safety Officer is responsible for the site-specific project safety plan, including assessment and monitoring of hazardous or unsafe situations and ensuring ongoing safety of all personnel on site.

MAIN DUTIES:

• Assess, monitor and correct hazardous or unsafe situations on site, including tools and equipment
• Development and implement measures to ensure personnel safety and respond to any safety concerns
• Prevent unsafe acts when immediate action is required in an emergency
• Ensure appropriate documentation, reporting, logs and communication are completed
• Conduct or participate in toolbox, planning and other meetings
• Promote safe practices at the job site and conduct drills and exercises where required
• Review and approve subcontractor safety plans
• Investigate accidents and near-misses

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Specialized certification: Construction Safety Officer (CSO), Construction Safety
Specialist (CSS), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
• Occupational First Aid Level 3
• Two or more years construction site experience in a safety officer role
• Post-secondary education in construction or engineering would be an asset
• Strong Microsoft office computer skills
• Excellent inter-personal, organizational and time-management skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others
• Able to remain calm and take appropriate action during potentially situations
